Tuesday 2 July at 7.45pm
Wednesday 3 July at 3pm & 7.45pm

Running time: 89 minutes

Director – Alan Elliott, Sydney Pollack

Starring – Aretha Franklin

Imagine travelling back to 1972, to a Baptist Church in Los Angeles, just in time for Aretha Franklinto deliver a performance that would go down in history. That’s what watching Amazing Grace feels like. The astonishing documentary – a lost film finally unearthed and restored – captures the moment the Queen of Soul revisited her roots. The songs she recorded at the New Temple Missionary Baptist Church became the best-selling gospel album of all time, but few knew that Academy Award-winning director Sydney Pollack was there, filming. For technical reasons, the footage was shelved and almost forgotten until after Pollack’s death – and its painstaking resurrection results in spine-tingling stuff.

LOUDER IS NOT ALWAYS CLEARER Edinburgh Preview

A Mr & Mrs Clark Production

Wednesday 24 July at 7.45pm

Tickets - £10, concessions - £8

Meet Jonny: teacher, father and football fan. He’s an artist, a campaigner, and he’s deaf. He wishes he could sing and loves to dance, but he can’t hear the music unless the bass is turned right up.

Jonny grew up in a hearing family, surrounded by fear of the stigma of disability.

Louder Is Not Always Clearer tells Jonny’s moving, funny story of disconnection, difference and desperation to belong. This one-man show is a starkly honest portrayal of a man seemingly confident, outgoing and popular, who is inwardly vulnerable and, at times, isolated.

In a hearing world Jonny is different.

Supported by Arts Council Wales, Chapter Arts Centre and an commissioned for Experimentica17

There is some strong language and a scene with sexual content

Louder Is Not Always Clearer is part of Wales In Edinburgh and British Council Showcase 2019 and has been selected for National Rural Touring Forum Dance Initiative.

Flossy and Boo have been plonked right inthe middle of what is known as "The Real World", and have been told in no uncertain terms that they are in fact, ‘Girls’. But what is a ‘Girl’? And who gets to decide? In this cabaret-style theatre show, Flossy and Boo explore all the intricacies of what it means to be female in the modern world. From feminism to romance, to the wonder of Kate Bush, the audience decide what comes next in the show – leading to hilarious and unexpected results. Girl on Girl is filled with Music, Comedy, and Flossy and Boo’s own curious take on the world around us and the ridiculous life cards we are dealt.

Think of the theatrical equivalent of putting your hand down the side of the sofa. Gross, a tiny layer of crumb, a smudge of gum, but then you find that forgotten tenner! (You know the one they allowed a lady's face on…)

Tickets - £22, children - £16

Get ready to moonwalk the night away at a show who’s star performer ‘Navi’ once earned a standing ovation from Michael Jackson himself.

King Of Pop – The Legend Continues is currently on tour in the UK and is taking British theatres by storm.  The superb production stars the world’s No.1 MJ impersonator ‘Navi’ who was actually invited to perform at two of Michael Jackson’s birthday parties in LA and New York.  Michael not only applauded Navi but also gave him a standing ovation and invited the impersonator to spend a day at his home ‘Neverland’.  The pair remained close and due to Navi’s uncanny resemblance to the star, he was often hired by Michael to act as a decoy to distract mobs of fans and press.

Navi has since continued to work at the highest level performing in a whopping 57 different countries and is now back in the UK for a national theatre tour along with his incredible live band and dancers.  Navi brilliantly recreates all the magical classics from the early Jackson 5 songs to mega-hits such as Thriller and Smooth Criminal in a show the whole family will enjoy.

Tickets - £13.25, concessions - £11.25

Touring south Wales

Written by Katherine Chandler

Directed by Phil Clark

Performed by Christian Patterson

Katherine Chandler’s touchingly funny monologue explores anunexpected friendship between hapless hospital radio DJ Danny Walkman and tough talking patient Peggy.

After his radio show at St Bevan’s Hospital, Danny has a chance encounter in the Garden of Hope with Peggy. They’ve nothing in common, but in Danny’s world everyone likes music, don’t they?

Everyone’s got a song, and if there’s one thing Danny Walkman isgood at, it’s getting people to tell him what their song is. Peggy doesn’t give much away, so it’s a race against time for Danny to find, and play, Peggy’s song.

IN AND OUT OF CHEKHOV'S SHORTS

Thursday 26 September at 7pm

Tickets - £13.25, concessions -£11.25

Chekhov is one of the great writers of the 20th Century and these tales, newly adapted and directed by Eliot Giuralarocca, remain as memorable and bracing as jumping into a cold plungepool after a hot sauna!

Performed by a company of five and featuring original live music and stylish ensemble story-telling, In and Out of Chekhov’s shorts is an exhilarating, fun and accessible romp through some of the best of Chekhov’s short stories including The Lady with the Little Dog, The Chemist’s Wife, At a Summer Villa, An Avenger and The Bear.

These wonderful hymns to the absurdity of everyday life, are by turns hilarious, romantic, poignant, odd and memorable. They hold the mirror up to the half-comic, half-painful experience of love and relationships and create a world in which the tender and the grotesque are inextricably linked. Ludicrous situations and larger than life characters abound in an evening that simply cannot be missed!

Babies under 18 months are welcome, but please don’t bring older toddlers because they tend to heckle!

This special afternoon gig has reduced amplification and a dimmed room so no one will notice those red eyes from sleepless nights. You’re encouraged to bottle, breast or Haribo feed and you can walk about or shake Mittens the Special Rabbit in order to soothe your offspring and no one will moan or mutter if your little one cries or screams.

There’s snacks and drinks available in the cafe too so treat yerself to cake and a Prosecco, you deserve it!

The gig is also open to parents, Aunts, Uncles, Grans, carers, in fact anyone who needs some afternoon comedy and doesn’t mind some cute babies in attendance.

AFTERMIRTH is lovingly curated and compered by Angie Belcher.

Please note!

There’s limited space, ditch the buggy andbring a sling if you can.

Imagine being far, far from home and all alone, arriving in a remote snow-bound village, surrounded by dense forest and strange noises. This is how Yana’s story begins.
